Read this bit sober. This is a rough estimate from a 100-year-old formula. It doesn't know your food, sleep, meds, tolerance, or what was actually poured, and real BAC can be far higher. Never use it to decide whether anyone can drive. It's a walkable city. Take the cab.

    The route

    All walkable

Rough order from early doors to last one standing.

    1

    Concert Square

    Ropewalks · the obvious start

Open-air square ringed with bars, big outdoor drinking yard. Loud, young, gets rammed. Perfect first-pint energy — not where you want to end up at 2am.

    2

    Seel Street & Slater Street

2 min walk · the actual engine

Runs right off Concert Square. Denser, better, more variety — proper bars instead of just yards. Most of the night should happen here.

    3

    Bold Street

4 min walk · food and a breather

Independent restaurants and cafés. Eat here before you need to, not after. This is what buys you Saturday.

    4

    Baltic Triangle

10–12 min walk south · the cool one

Converted warehouses, street food, bigger venues, later licences. Just far enough out that it feels like you found it. Worth the walk once.

    5

    Mathew Street

8 min walk north · the tourist one

Cavern Quarter. Beatles-themed, live bands, unashamedly for visitors. Do it once, enjoy it honestly, don't build a night around it.

    Albert Dock & waterfront

    Daytime

Where you go Saturday afternoon to feel like a person again. Water, air, food, no strobes.

    Paying

    Contactless everywhere

Tap works basically universally. You'll barely touch cash.

    A pint runs £5–7

More in the busy squares, less in an old man's pub.

    Rounds are standard

If someone gets you one, you're in the round. Pace accordingly.

    Bar etiquette

    Order at the bar

No table service in most pubs. Go up, pay there, carry it back.

    Don't tip the bartender

Not expected and mildly odd. If someone's been great, "and one for yourself" is the local move.

    Restaurants: ~10%

Only if service isn't already on the bill — check first, it often is.

    Last orders

Traditional pubs call it around 11pm. Late bars and clubs in Ropewalks and the Baltic run much later.

    Not dying

    Eat on Bold Street

Early, before you think you need it.

    Water between rounds

Bar staff will give you tap water for free. Just ask.

    Pints are 20% bigger

Six here is not six at home.

    Trains stop early

Local rail winds down around midnight. After that it's a cab.

    Stay together

Agree a meeting spot now, while sober, in case phones die.

    Scouse decoder

You won't understand the first three people who talk to you. Normal. A rough guide, not a dictionary.

    Get home safe
